Inspired by an American Hero, and North Catholic Falcon
Michael attended North Catholic with the help of grants and scholarships, and we feel there's no better way to honor him then by helping raise money to assist in helping others obtain a catholic education.
United States Navy Petty Officer First Class Michael Strange was a 2000 graduate of Saint Bartholomew School and a very proud North Catholic Class of 2004 graduate. He enlisted in the Navy upon graduation. He quickly earned and proudly wore the Navy Expeditionary Warfare Specialist and Navy Information Dominance Warfare badges.
Michael was killed in action on the single deadliest day in history for U.S. Naval Special Forces. He was 25 years old. On August 6, 2011, He was a member of the now infamous Extortion 17. This was the call sign of the Chinook helicopter Michael boarded. Michael and a team of special operators from multiple military branches were to be inserted into Tangi Valley in Afghanistan to bolster an ongoing mission already taking place on the ground. This was an extremely dangerous mission flying unescorted and at night. Extortion 17 was shot down by insurgents firing rocket propelled grenades. All members aboard Extortion 17 were killed.
